Boatyard services

Standish is a full-service boat yard in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Our own crew handles hauling and launching with a 25,000 lb crane, bottom paint, rigging, detailing, and gas and diesel engine service. We also install electronics, arrange surveys and broker boats. Unless noted, work is billed as time and materials, and prices are subject to change.

Bottom work is done by our crew only. To meet DEM and EPA rules and keep hazardous waste out of the river, owners may not prep or paint their own bottoms. We work with vacuum recovery and tarps on every job.

Gas and diesel mechanics

Our mechanics maintain and repair gas and diesel engines, from routine service to troubleshooting. We sell parts for Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Caterpillar, Cummins and Mercury, and parts we don't stock can usually be here the next business day.

We handle professional electronics installation and can arrange a marine survey through the office. Other specialized work is scheduled through us and billed by the yard.

Buying or selling a boat

Standish is a yacht brokerage as well as a boat yard. Talk to us about listing your boat, or tell us what you're looking for. "For Sale" signs on boats in the yard need approval from management first.

Boatyard questions

Can I paint or sand my own boat bottom?: No. To meet DEM and EPA rules, all bottom prep and painting is done by our crew, with vacuum recovery and tarps. Prep is billed hourly and materials are extra.
How much is a short haul?: A short haul is $15 per foot. A haul and block for service work is $17 per foot.
Can I bring in my own contractor?: Only with written approval from the office first. Subcontractors must carry $1,000,000 in liability insurance and check in and out with the office, and a 15% fee applies to their labor.
Do you work on diesel engines?: Yes. Our mechanics service gas and diesel engines and sell parts for Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Caterpillar, Cummins and Mercury.
How do I pay?: Cash or check is preferred. Card payments carry a 3.5% fee, and a 2% environmental fee applies to service charges (not fuel or retail).
