Winter storage
Standish Boat Yard stores boats for the winter on land or in the water in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Rates are charged by the foot, and we offer shrink wrap, engine winterization and mast storage. Winter storage customers also get priority for slips and moorings the following season.

Dates to know
- Nov 1Dinghies off the dinghy dock. Boats still in slips without a storage agreement are billed transient rates.
- Dec 1 – Apr 1Winter crane and towing calls carry a 20% premium.
- May 1Wet-storage boats not summering with us must leave.
- May 15Seasonal slips and moorings open.
- Jun 1Boats not launched may owe storage back to May 1.
Sails come off for winter. No tarps across decks, no plugged-in cords, no electric heaters. We can't guarantee exact haul or launch dates, but with notice we'll aim for the week you ask for.

Put your engine to bed properly
Our mechanics winterize gas and diesel engines before the cold sets in. Add it to your winter storage request and we'll quote it with your haul-out. Parts and filters are on our shelves or here the next business day.
Before haul-out
Your checklist
- Take your sails off, or we'll remove and stow them below at yard labor rates.
- Get your dinghy off the dinghy dock by November 1.
- If we're unstepping your mast, remove electrical tape and make sure cotter pins aren't seized.
- Take down masthead gear you want protected, or we'll remove it as part of unstepping.
- Plan on no tarps across decks, no plugged-in cords and no electric heaters over the winter.

Winter storage questions
- How much is winter storage?
- $52 per foot on land and $45 per foot in the water. Shrink wrap is $21 per foot plus materials.
- When does my boat need to be out of its slip?
- By November 1. Boats left in slips after that without a winter storage agreement are billed at transient rates.
- Can I pick my haul-out date?
- We can't guarantee exact dates because of weather and volume, but with enough notice we'll aim for the week you ask for. You don't need to be there for the haul.
- Do you winterize engines?
- Yes. Our mechanics winterize gas and diesel engines. Add it to your storage request for a quote.
- Do winter storage customers get priority for summer?
- Yes. Winter storage customers get priority for slips and moorings the following season.
- What if my boat isn't launched by June 1?
- Boats not launched by June 1 may be charged storage back to May 1.
